The Problem
Smallholder farmers along the Tana River were limited to a single rainy-season crop due to the cost and unreliability of fuel-powered irrigation pumps.
The Design
A solar pump drawing from the river feeds a drip network laid out across participating farmers' plots, sized to the pump's realistic dry-season output.
Community Engagement
Participating farmers are contributing labor for network installation and will jointly manage a maintenance fund once the system is handed over.
The Reality
Installation of the pump and initial drip lines is complete; full network rollout across all participating plots is ongoing.
