The Problem
The settlement had no grid connection and relied on costly, unreliable diesel generation for lighting, phone charging and small business use.
The Design
A central solar array and battery bank distributes power through a local mini-grid to connected households and business kiosks, sized to the community's actual peak demand rather than an oversized default.
Community Engagement
Household and business energy needs were mapped with community leaders before sizing the system, and local technicians were trained to handle first-line maintenance and fee collection.
The Reality
The mini-grid now powers roughly 150 households and a dozen small businesses, replacing diesel generators and extending business hours into the evening.
